PHOTOGRAPHY

My father gifted me his weathered Nikon FM2 when I left home in 1987 to pursue a BA in History at the University of Colorado. As a wide-eyed, warm-hearted country girl from Indiana, I had no idea that my budding passion in photography in Boulder would open doors far beyond the Rocky Mountains. Though I went on to earn a Master’s in History and International Relations in Switzerland in 1992, it was during six months of thesis research in Sri Lanka - immersed in a conflict zone documenting International Humanitarian Action - that I witnessed firsthand the bureaucratic entanglements and inefficiencies undermining global humanitarian efforts.

That disillusionment became a turning point, leading me to photojournalism - a field where I could document history as it unfolded and respond with honesty, instinct and heart. Through my camera, I found a way to bear witness to the world's complexities, resilience and grace. My fierce courage, insatiable curiosity, and boundless compassion became the foundation for my visual storytelling - images that are unfiltered, empathetic, and full of spirit.

During my 17-year career in photojournalism (1993-2010), I crisscrossed the globe, with my work featured in leading international publications. Today, my lens is drawn to the elemental beauty of water, air, and earth—capturing their dance with light while continuing to create evocative environmental portraits that speak to the essence of our shared human experience.
