  • Elderly women singing at a royal wedding, who are the official singers and musicians of the Rathore clan. They sing at different auspicious occassions, particularly clan weddings in Jodhpur, India. 1998

  • Female Tamil Tiger fighters during heavy weaponry training in the northern Vanni region of Sri Lanka. During a 6 month training period, the initial 3 months serve as an endurance testing ground beginning at 4:30 am until late evening. The training consists of long distance running, crawling under barbed wires, rope climbing, military parades coupled with theoretical and practical exercise with weapons, sentry posts staffed 24 hours, maintenance of the camp as well as political and military studies. The folowing 3 months is advanced military training with heavy weaponry and live ammunition - to familiarise both sound and impact. Special training continues into areas of need, interest, and expertise in order to handle communication equipment, explosives, mining, weapon technology, electronics, field medecine, political work and intelligence/reconnaissance work. The women who show an aptitude for combat situations progress further to specialised commando training. 1998
